Happy Easter from SFC!
Marking the end of the Lenten season, Easter is a time for hope and renewal. In the spirit of this time of year, we would like to share a story about one of our guests.
George is a homeless veteran who first heard about St. Francis Center through word of mouth. He has been homeless for about four years and travels all the way from Long Beach to utilize our services. For the past month he has actually been working with Kitty Powers, our resource specialist, in case management. With his culinary experience, Kitty has been helping George work on his resume in hopes of finding a job in food service. This support has come just in time as George has a promising new prospect for a job!
Last weekend when George was out and about in Long Beach, he noticed that one of the food vendors preparing for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach looked like they needed help, so he shared that he had a background in food service and they hired him on the spot.
Now there is a good chance that George will be hired on to continue working with the food vendor at future events. We’re excited for George and this opportunity and will continue to share his updates!
